It's likely that you'll find Dr. Kirk Westervelt, owner of Westervelt Family Dentistry in Sedona, in a huddle with the Big Park Community School girls basketball team during basketball season. Westervelt, who is also head coach of the winning team says, "I don't have to hound them. And I love coaching them because they listen, always bring energy, and I don't have to repeat myself."
Westervelt also attributes the successful development of the team to his coaching staff: former Sedona Red Rock High School basketball coach, Tina Hawes, her daughter, Morgan Hawes, and Phil Kovak.
Westervelt has been active in the local community coaching and sponsoring kids' local sports teams for many years. He has two girls of his own who are active in sports. His oldest daughter, Liza, has averaged 10.6 points per game and 4.2 assists. She's also taken the title of the Arizona state free throw champion two years in a row.
When Westervelt's not on the basketball court, you can find him on the tennis courts playing in local tournaments. An avid tennis player, Westervelt has one of the highest USTA rankings in the Verde Valley. He also volunteers his time to the county jail once a month in the Phoenix area.
Westervelt Family Dentistry has provided general family dentistry to over 5,000 patients since the year 2000. Dr. Westervelt hails from a family of medical doctors and dental professionals with a long history of professional practices in Arizona and elsewhere in the U.S., dating back over 100 years.
